1 – Can you introduce yourself? What do you do?
My name is Shannon Dawson. I’m a DJ, writer, and podcaster based in NYC.
2. Are you employed?
Thankfully! Right now I’m a freelance writer for a gossip column. I’m really happy to be writing again full time. Before I moved back to the states I was teaching English in China which was incredible.
3. If yes, how did you find your job?
I found my job through a friend of mine who knew I had a knack behind the pen. I’m honestly grateful I’m employed during this time. This last year has been so challenging for all my friends in the arts. I can’t help but worry sometimes that this opportunity might not last forever. It sucks to feel a bit disposable, but I’m working through it day to day. I hope to get back to Djing soon because that made up a huge bulk of my income.
4. Any hobbies?
Yes! I have a lot of hobbies. I love working out and reading. When I’m not writing I’m usually working on my podcast Club Management.Honestly, this has become more than a hobby— it’s almost a damn full-time job lol. The show focuses on creatives who are impacting their communities through music and leadership work. So far, we’ve featured some incredible conversations with artists like Traxman who spoke about his role in bringing Chicago Footwork to a global stage. UNIIQU3 also dropped gems in her episode about the history of Jersey Club and how she’s been showcasing a wealth of talent from Newark with her PBJ parties. I mean that’s so damn inspiring!
I really hope these conversations can inspire and educate those who are also striving to create and make an impact with their art. Especially in a time like this where things feel uncertain.

6. Any upcoming plans?
I have absolutely no idea lol I look forward to being able to make friends and just live a normal life. I know one thing is for sure. I will not take anything for granted anymore. If this last year has shown us anything, we better be taking advantage of every moment and that’s what I plan on doing.
