Media Art Xploration (MAX) invites artist submissions to MAXmachina, an incubator for our live and interactive arts programming.
Artists, artist-engineers, and artist-scientist teams are invited to submit proposals for live and interactive works-in-progress that could reach completion with an 18-month residency. MAX is looking for projects that utilize listening, embodied knowledge, and new research around sensory understanding. In particular, we are interested in projects exploring the interplay between human actions, ecosystems, and machine-species collaborations. Selected works will be presented MAXlive 2024, an interdisciplinary arts festival, and need to be complete by January 2024.
Building on MAXlive 2021: The Neuroverse, their 2022-24 season of programming and development will traverse the boundaries between intelligences: natural and artificial, human and more than human. They wish to invite the selected teams to be collaborators as they bring these themes into live performance.
They are seeking proposals for new in-progress works that have not been presented in New York City. This call is open to emerging and mid-career makers, including those who do not traditionally work in live arts.
They provide funding up to $7,500 and additional production support. MAX’s overall support includes creative development, administrative expertise, and production support for realizing and presenting the work. Selected artists are expected to be in dialogue with MAX and their network of scientific advisors and engineers who are curated to support the development of individual works.
Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Track record of the artist or collaborative team
- Clarity of concept
- Accuracy of content
- Creative potential
- Feasibility of execution and presentation
